He Comes Home Today

My husband is coming home today and as expected, I got nothing done this wknd except laundry and working on my book a bit. It was a Smother’s Day Movie Marathon on Channel 150-Time Warner, so I did watch quite a few movies and I didn’t go anywhere due to not just energy/headache reasons; but also the fact that my transmission is slipping and I would really prefer my husband be local, should anything happen.

My husband forwarded a picture of his Mom and his Aunt so I could see them. It is sad how much weight his Aunt has gained. She used to be big before but… plus, her hair is so short, it is not attractive. I think she lost it big time when her mother died recently.

One thing I learned from the picture, (actually I knew this) if you are a large woman, I don’t recommend wearing splashes of color. At least in this case, it made her look like a Circus Tent.

Anyway, I guess it’s a cleaning frenzy today to see what I get accomplished before my Hero returns.

HouseKeeper & Horror

We had housekeepers come yesterday (I’m lucky if we hire someone maybe once a year) and they did okay but they organized a drawer I didn’t want them going into (they should not have opened any drawers at all) and they ruined our range hood by scrubbing it so hard they scrubbed the paint off it.  It seriously looks like crap now.  Today, I have to start putting all the stuff away that we put in the two rooms we didn’t allow them in.  Isn’t it sad how we have to literally put all our stuff away so the housekeepers can clean?  Something is wrong with that picture.

Anyway, I tried to stay away so as not to be exposed to the chemicals with my wonderfully, weak immune system and I took myself to see the movie, ‘Mama”.  You may like it if you liked the movie, ‘Lady In the Water.’  It had a bit of a plot but a weird ending.  In  my opinion, I don’t think it was “Horror Movie” at all.  You could call it suspenseful if you want.  Of course, I read True Crime.  Those are more horror than any movie such as this and if you’ve ever seen movies about Ted Bundy, The Guyana Tragedy or even the Holocaust; those are real horror. versus some of this Hollywood crap.  Although, if you want to discuss Hollywood.  Go back to Friday The 13th, Nightmare On Elm Street, and Halloween, if you want horror.  The new ones just don’t compare.

Introducing “Bear”

This is Bear and this is the story of how he came into my life.  With all the excitement of the movie “Ted”, I told Bear he could have some of the limelight.  Yes, he is old and slow but he does his job which is to keep an eye on my cell phone at night and sometimes he holds a small pad of paper and/or a pen under his paw.

There I was at 16 years old sitting at the table looking at the ads in the local paper when I come across an ad for a store having a sale on Teddy Bears.  I said, “Hey Mom, They are having a sale on Teddy Bears.  Will you take me to the store?”  Mom goes, “Who needs  a Teddy Bear, we don’t have children.”  I said, “I’ve always wanted a Teddy Bear.  I only had that old Snoopy which I dragged around by it’s neck.  Please take me.”  (that’s a whole nother story.) Mom took me but she was very nervous about someone seeing her with her 16 year-old-daughter getting a Teddy Bear.  How embarrassing, after all!  She kept saying, “Hurry up.” and “I hope nobody I know see’s me here.” so I played that off as best I could.  I picked up the first bear.  “What do you think of this one?”  My mom didn’t even look our way. “It’s fine.  Let’s go.”  I looked again.  It was not fine.  It’s nose was crooked.  I think it’s eye was too.  Nope, I kept looking.  Mind you, there were so many bears, it was a child’s paradise.  It was Teddy Bear Heaven!  It was a Bear Convention..Well, you get the idea.  Anyway, I kept looking until..I saw him.  Or, he saw me.  I really don’t know who found the other first.  But, he was perfect.  It was “Bear” and he was calling my name to come home.  I was so happy!  I don’t care if mom looked at him or was embarrassed or not.

I still have Bear.  I’ve had him for 32 years.  Unfortunately, he has outlived my mom.  He has been with me through many tears and hardships, as well as brought back this memory time and time again.

So, I just thought I would introduce him to you so he can feel like a celebrity.

Valentine’s Day & Romance

As you may have already guessed, my husband and I are not the mushy, romantic types.

When we were visiting his relatives, we sat through a movie titled ‘The Notebook’ and if it had been a theatre, I think we both would have walked out.  At the end of the movie, both of his sisters were in tears and they looked at us and asked why we weren’t crying?  I think I was almost gagging actually.  I have just not been into that stuff. A romantic book I like is ‘The Promise’ by Danielle Steele and my favorite movie of all time is ‘Gone-With-The-Wind’.  Even ‘Titanic’ is really good.  Those have some romance without all the sappiness which is just so out there and unrealistic.

For V-Day, I put up a few decorations and we went to dinner a few days ago..No, we didn’t dress up – However, I got to choose the restaurant..no candles or romance or blah…Just Black Angus for my Grilled Artichoke and my Baked Potato Soup.  If you like watching your spouse have cheese run down her chin while she eats soup, you could call it romantic. HA!  I got S. a few Laker’s things for his office and he ordered a few things from my Amazon Wish-List which probably won’t arrive until tomorrow since he used free shipping.

And, I started Phase 1 of the Room Change yesterday by switching out his closet so his work clothes are now in there.  It took me a few hours to get all my gift stuff out plus there was divider that was actually surprisingly easy to get out and shelves to be removed.  I am really hoping we can transfer them to a different closet so I can use them in there.  I have the Master Bedroom Closet and the poor man has had to use two separate closets in two other rooms of the house.  That would be inconvenient for most people to live that way forever and not have a closet in your own room I think; especially in a house in which you are paying the mortgage.

We live in a four bedroom house and we have sort of divided it so we each have two rooms to do what we want.  It is still our house but we have two rooms each to decorate, etc.  S. has his own Office and now Bedroom and I have my own Library and Bedroom.

I  would love to hear any comments/ opinions on this.

A Date By Myself

Yesterday I took myself to Red Lobster for lunch.  It was a pain using my Nutrition Tracker App deciding what to eat but having had barely any Protein at breakfast..what a reward!  I had one of their yummy Crab Cakes and wonderful Biscuits.  Nothing like fresh Crab Cake from a Seafood Restaurant.  I just ate the other one for breakfast today.

Reminds me of a time years ago when I had self-confidence and just enjoyed going out by myself.  This was also when I was in between boyfriends.  I decided to take myself to the movie one day to see The Muppets.  I love The Muppets.  Anyway, as I was leaving my apartment..one of my neighbors asks me where I’m going and I say, “I’m going to the movie.” and he says “With who?”  so I say, “Me, Myself and I.” so he asks, “Can I come?” and I said, “Sure.  If you want to see The Muppets.”  He thought for a second and said, “The Muppets?, Can we watch something else?” and I said, “No.  You invited yourself to the movie.  I am going to see the Muppets.  If you don’t want to see The Muppets.  Forget it.”  So he said, “Have a good time.” and I said, “Thank you, I will.”

and I did.

Yesterday was one of the first times in a long time I arrived early (an hour early) for an appointment.  I played on my phone in the car until the actual appointment time.
